Après Babel, traduire

MUCEM, Marsella

14.12.2016 – 20.03.2017

The After Babel, Translate exhibition is running at the Mucem from 14 December 2016 to 20 March 2017. Babel, a Hebrew word meaning ‘confusion’, is in reference to the Tower of Babel, the origin of language diversity, but is this diversity a curse or an opportunity? Answer: an opportunity, provided there is translation.

Translation is one of the great cultural and social challenges of our globalised world. To translate is to prefer the costly and sometimes tricky task of tackling differences between languages, cultures and world views to compare and reconcile them over accepting fast, basic communication in more or less artificial languages (‘global English’ or Globish today).

Art en trànsit. Col.lecció del Centre d’Art La Panera

Centre d´Art Contemporani La Sala, Vilanova i la Geltrú

18.11.2016 – 08.01.2017

«Art in transit» brings together a selection of works from the Centre d’Art la Panera collection: a public collection started by the Lleida Town Council in 1997 after the first Leandre Cristòfol Art Biennial. This contest aims to provide a two-yearly analysis of the situation of Catalan and Spanish contemporary art while also making other acquisitions?, allowing us to follow the many paths that contemporary visual arts have taken from the beginning of the 1990s to the present day.

CARLES CONGOST

Wonders

Lo Pati Centre d´art Terres de l´Ebre, Amposta

10.12.2016 – 19.30h

CAT / CAST / ENG

MACBA, Barcelona

04.11.2016 – 19.03.2017

On 22 August 1979, the editorial in the newspaper El Pais entitled ‘Reform, break up and symbols’ reflected on the years following the dictatorship and the ‘peaceful and gradual’ transition to a parliamentary monarchy led by ‘politicians and professionals from the previous regime, who had acquired their skills and capabilities by being pragmatic and serving a power that had systematically denied, in theory and in practice, the rights and freedoms of constitutional democracy’. We have paid a high ‘moral and monetary’ price for this process, since the institutional framework on which it was built can still be felt today, and it is still difficult, not to say annoying in some circles, to reclaim the right to the historic memory or to talk about the problems and the cost to the country of this transition.

LOLA LASURT

Surprise

Netwerk. Center for contemporary art, Aalst

24.09 – 11.12.2016

Surprise is an exhibition in which the power of imagination is central. In astonishing ways, the Netwerk building is transformed into an adventurous art circuit with much to see and do.
Thanks to its theme, Surprise is particularly attractive for young visitors of Netwerk, although the exhibition caters just as much to an adult audience. So one may expect much more than a typical group exhibition. Experience an adventure both physical and psychological.

HANNAH COLLINS

EPCC Ecole Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Le Mans

17.11 – 16.12.2016
